Anurag Kashyap Requests 'Mediocre' Individuals to Keep Distance

Esteemed filmmaker and mentor Anurag Kashyap recently expressed his frustration with aiding newcomers in the industry. Taking a firm stance, he shared a rate card for his time, suggesting that those who can afford his services should reach out while advising those who cannot to abstain from seeking his assistance.

The filmmaker posted a note on Instagram stating, "I wasted a lot of time trying to help newcomers and mostly ended up with mediocre stuff. So now onwards I don't want to waste my time with meeting random people who think they're creative geniuses. So I will now have rates."

He further stated, "If someone wants to meet me for 10-15 minutes I will charge 1 lac, for half an hour 2 lacs, and for 1 hour 5 lacs. That's the rate. I am tired of wasting time meeting people. If you really think you can afford it, call me or stay the f**k away. And all paid in advance."

This statement reflects Kashyap's apparent exhaustion with dedicating his time and expertise to aspiring talents who may not fully value or utilize his guidance. It also highlights the economic aspect of mentorship in the film industry, where established figures like Kashyap may feel underappreciated for their contributions to newcomers' careers.

Despite his current stance, Kashyap has a track record of providing opportunities to many newcomers in his projects. Films such as Gangs of Wasseypur, Black Friday, Aamir, and Masaan prominently feature new actors. Notable talents like Vicky Kaushal and Rajeev Khandelwal received their first breaks in Bollywood from Kashyap. He has previously stated that he prefers working with newcomers because they allow filmmakers to execute their vision without interference.

However, with his recent reluctance to engage with newcomers, it may create opportunities for established actors to feature more prominently in his future films.
