Kareena Kapoor Opens Up About OTT Debut, Describes It as 'Nerve-Racking'

Having dominated the Indian film industry for over two decades, Kareena Kapoor Khan recently ventured into the realm of streaming platforms with her debut on OTT in the mystery thriller film "Jaane Jaan." The actor has now opened up about her experience and shared her feelings while working on this project.

Kareena Kapoor Khan describes her foray into the world of OTT as an ‘nerve-racking' experience

Kareena Kapoor Khan participated in Netflix's The Actors' Roundtable 2023 alongside fellow actors such as Sidharth Malhotra, Kajol, Sanya Malhotra, Jaideep Ahlawat, Tillotama Shome, and Amruta Subhash. During the discussion, she candidly shared her thoughts on her venture into the world of OTT.

Describing the experience as 'nerve-racking,' the actress from The Buckingham Murders revealed to Rajeev Masand that it felt akin to making her screen debut. She expressed, "Entering the OTT platform was a bit nerve-racking. I believe it changed the way I approached my performance. It felt like stepping onto the screen for the first time, reminiscent of what I felt 24 years ago."

Kapoor Khan went on to highlight the distinctions between working for OTT platforms and traditional feature films. Elaborating on her concerns, she explained, "I was apprehensive because, in a way, I feel that TV is more personal. Someone could be watching you from the comfort of their bed or a personal space. It's an up-close and personal experience, as opposed to being in a cinema, enjoying popcorn with the screen in front of you. So, in a way, I felt that this altered my mindset a bit," she concluded, emphasizing that even now, she retains a sense of nervousness when considering projects for shows or OTT films.

Even after spending numerous years in the industry, Kapoor made her entry into the OTT realm relatively late. When questioned about the time it took for her to agree to Jaane Jaan, she responded, “I always wanted to work with Sujoy (Ghosh) but it was the right kind of script. A thriller would be different for me to do rather than the same.”
