Director Payal Kapadia's film, "All We Imagine As Light," has made history by winning the Grand Prix Award at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. This prestigious accolade is second only to the Palme d’Or and was awarded during the festival's closing ceremony. The film's screening received an enthusiastic eight-minute standing ovation, a testament to its impact on the audience.



"All We Imagine As Light," a Malayalam feature, explores the nuanced lives of two nurses whose trip to a beach town allows them to find space for their desires. Set against the backdrop of Mumbai, the story revolves around Prabha, a nurse whose routine is disrupted by an unexpected gift from her estranged husband. Meanwhile, her younger roommate, Anu, struggles to secure a place to live with her boyfriend in the bustling city.


The film has garnered widespread acclaim from international critics, who have praised Payal Kapadia's storytelling prowess. Kapadia, an alumna of the Film & Television Institute of India (FTII), continues to impress with her cinematic vision. She is also known for her acclaimed documentary "A Night of Knowing Nothing," which won the Oeil d'or award at a previous Cannes Film Festival.
