Ranbir Kapoor is a marketer’s ideal figure, says film strategist Varun Gupta

Ranbir Kapoor stands indisputably as one of Bollywood's premier actors in the contemporary era. Currently reveling in the triumph of his latest release, "Animal," directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film has not only garnered widespread acclaim but has also shattered numerous box office records. A decade ago, another cinematic gem featuring Ranbir, "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani," made a comparable impact. Film strategist Varun Gupta, the mastermind behind the marketing of both these blockbuster movies, shares insights on his enduring association with the talented Kapoor. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Gupta reflects on the journey and success of these cinematic ventures.

Varun Gupta Acknowledges Ranbir Kapoor's Exceptional Insight and Sharp Understanding

Varun Gupta, closely tracking Ranbir Kapoor during the marketing of both these films mentioned that the actor has a sharp understanding of what will click with the audience and what won’t. Elaborating on the same, Varun shared, “10 years back we did integrations with fiction shows, to city tours where he danced on ‘Badtameez Dil’ along with multiple interviews and brand integrations, to ensure that the music and film gets the right buzz. While RK had his concerns and opinions, he was up to attempting it all once convinced with logic.

A decade later, significant changes have occurred in the industry. According to Varun Gupta, the marketing team of the film "Animal" aimed to avoid overexposing Ranbir Kapoor. They believed it was the opportune moment for the actor to transition from a star to a superstar. Therefore, the decision was made to limit his appearances in various cities and shows. The marketing strategy focused on emphasizing Ranbir Kapoor's on-screen presentation and aura, opting for a restrained visibility approach. Gupta highlights that Ranbir Kapoor appreciates logical explanations and understands the underlying points. It's not a reluctance to experiment; he simply seeks a clear understanding of how each endeavor contributes to his overall impact.

Gupta further conclude by stating, “With passing times, ways of promotions are evolving and so are the actors. I am proud to be a part of both the films that have proved to be career-defining for him. An actor like him is a marketer's delight and surely deserves this and more.”
