Sonali Bendre expresses feeling reduced to a caricature in the Shah Rukh-starrer Duplicate.

Sonali Bendre looks back on her experience with Duplicate, expressing how she felt her portrayal veered towards caricature rather than fully embodying the character she intended to portray.

In a recent interview with India Today, Sonali Bendre opened up about her role in the 1998 film Duplicate, which also starred Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla. Sonali expressed her disappointment, revealing that her character didn't align with her initial expectations.

When questioned about a film or project that significantly influenced her career, the actor said "There was a film I was doing at that time called Duplicate where I was approached to play a grey character in some way. It was very exciting and challenging for me to portray that character."

She elaborated, "We began preparing for the role with that intention and commenced shooting accordingly. However, as things progressed, I felt myself morphing into more of a caricature rather than embodying the nuanced, grey character I was meant to portray."

She also reflected on how, when a song from Duplicate plays and people discuss the film, the standout aspect is often how much a story can deviate from its original direction. This served as a significant lesson for her.
